Bridget Louise Christie (born 1971)[1][4] is a multi-award winning English comedian, actress and writer.

Early life

Christie grew up in Gloucester and attended St Peter's Roman Catholic High School. In 1994 she won a three year scholarship to study Drama at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in Wandsworth, London. She appeared in various theatre productions and adverts and in 2004 she began her stand-up career.[citation needed]

Career

Christie has appeared in numerous TV and BBC Radio 4 comedy programmes, including It's Kevin (BBC2), Have I Got News for You (BBC1), the Alternative Comedy Experience (Comedy Central), The Culture Show (BBC2), Cardinal Burns (Channel 4) and Celebrity Squares (ITV). Radio 4 programmes include The News Quiz, The Unbelievable Truth, and Loose Ends.

She has appeared in many professional theatre productions including The School for Scandal, alongside Lionel Blair, Marcus Brigstocke and Stephen K Amos, and was a regular cast member for the UK run of Celebrity Autobiography, both at the Edinburgh fringe and on the West End, along.[citation needed]

As a writer, she has contributed to The Guardian, The Sunday Times, The Times, The Independent, The Observer and various magazines. She has a regular Weekend Column in Guardian Weekend. Her debut book, A Book for Her, was published by Century in July 2015 to universal critical acclaim. [5]

She was a finalist in Funny Women 2004 and was nominated for the Leicester Comedian of the Year in 2006. In 2007 her Edinburgh Fringe show The Court of King Charles II - The Second won the Funny Women Best Show Fringe Award. In 2009 she was nominated for Best Breakthrough Act at the Chortle Awards. Her debut BBC Radio 4 series about feminism, Bridget Christie Minds the Gap, was broadcast in March 2013. It won Best Radio at the Chortle Awards 2014 and Best Radio Comedy at the prestigious Rose d'Or (Golden Rose) International Broadcasting Awards 2014. A second series was broadcast in January 2015 and won Best Radio at the 2015 Chortle Awards.[citation needed]

Her 2013 Edinburgh show, A Bic for Her, won the Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show, the 2014 South Bank Sky Arts Award for Best Comedy, Best Show at the 2014 Chortle Awards and became the top-selling comedy show in the history of Soho Theatre, and won a 2014 Hospital Club 100 Award for Theatre and Performance.[citation needed]

Her 2014 tour, a double bill of A Bic for Her (2013) and An Ungrateful Woman (2014) won the 2015 Chortle Award for Best Tour. Bridget was also nominated for a 2014 British Comedy Award for Best Female TV Comic. In October 2015 she was named as one of Marie Claire (magazine)'s "Women at the Top" Awards. In November 2015, she won the creative category at Red Magazine's Women of the Year Awards.[citation needed]
