Early life
Blake Neely was born and raised in Paris, Texas. He comes from a family full of a variety of career paths; his father was a rancher and professor, his mother a capable journalist, and his brother Tom Neely[3] is an artist in Los Angeles.
Neely first found his love for music by learning to play piano at the early age of 4, and has continued to pursue it ever since. At a young age, much of his initial interest was aroused by movies and TV shows, such as Star Wars. At age 14, Neely's parents found Simon Sargon, who took Neely under his wing for private lessons in order to help him better understand and develop his composing interests.
After graduating high school in 1987, Neely attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he continued his pursuit as a music major. During his time in college, Neely interned for two summers in L.A. for Disney. After graduation, he was offered a full-time job by their record company, Hollywood Records. He worked with them for a few years before moving on to Disney’s music publishing division, where he ran the print music division, handling publications of Disney’s sheet music and songbooks.
