Big News is a local television news and current affairs programme, covering the Birmingham, Black Country and Solihull areas, produced by Big Centre TV. The programme airs five times each weekday and broadcasts from studios at The Goldmine Centre in Walsall.

Overview

Big News covers news stories from Big Centre TV's broadcast area of Birmingham, Black Country and Solihull. The programme first aired as The Midland on the opening night of the station, before relaunching as Big News on Monday 4 April 2016.

The station's head of news, Bob Hall (formerly of ITV Central, presents three daytime editions of Big News on weekdays. The reporting and presenting team includes videojournalists Roshni Patel, Monika Plaha and Lois Swinnerton and sports correspondents Gary James and James Brackpool.[1]

The programme's launch team included producer Jennifer Meierhans (now at BBC Midlands) and reporter Marverine Cole (now at QVC UK).[2]

As of April 2016, four hour-long editions of Big News air each weekday at 8am, 10am, 1pm and 9pm, alongside a 90-minute programme at 5:30pm and short updates throughout the day. At weekends, an hour-long weekly review programme airs at various times on Saturdays and Sundays.
