Beachmere is a town and locality in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia.[2][3] It is located north of Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland. It has a population of 3,888 (2011 census).
History
The origin of the suburb name is from an early residence owned by P. Gonney by the name of Beachmere meaning a beach upon marshy ground.[2]
Demographics
In the 2011 census, Beachmere recorded a population of 3,888 people, 50.9% female and 49.1% male.[1] The median age of the Beachmere population was 44 years, compared to the national median age of 37.[1] 78.8% of people living in Beachmere were born in Australia. The other top responses for country of birth were England 6.4%, New Zealand 3.5%, Scotland 0.9%, Philippines 0.6%, Germany 0.6%.[1] 93.2% of people spoke only English at home; the next most common languages were 0.4% German, 0.3% French, 0.2% Afrikaans, 0.2% Hungarian, 0.2% Spanish.[1]
Education
There are two primary schools in Beachmere. The Moreton Bay Birali Steiner School opened in 2013, and is part of Steiner Education Australia.[4] Beachmere State School is a Queensland Government School.[5] Both schools are Prep to Grade 6. There is no high school in Beachmere, the nearest being in neighbouring Caboolture and Morayfield or in Bongaree on Bribie Island.[6]
