Barbara Bass is the immediate past mayor of Tyler, Texas. She was first elected in May 2008[1] and was reelected to her third term in 2010.[3] She left office in 2014 due to term limits.,[2] to be followed as mayor by local real estate businessman Martin Heines.
Service
Bass has served as Chair of the Better Business Bureau of Central East Texas, and the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, the Tyler Economic Development Council.[1] Bass also served as chairman of the Hospice of East Texas and as treasurer of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra Association.[1] For 20 years she has served on the Texas Society of CPAs, including three terms on the Executive Board.[1] She was a Leadership Tyler Class I participant, chairing the board of directors and serving on the advisory board.[1] She defeated Laura Corbett in 2008 to become Tyler's first female mayor.[2]
She donated money to Louie Gohmert.[4]
Personal life
Bass is a native East Texan and moved to Tyler with her husband in 1977.[1] She has worked for more than 30 years at Gollob Morgan Peddy PC, Certified Public Accountants, and is a partner with the company.[1] She attends Pollard United Methodist Church where she serves as treasurer.[1]
