Ballygunner (Irish: Baile Gunnair),[1] is a large townland in County Waterford, Ireland.

The placename is derived, in part, from the Old Norse masculine personal name Gunnarr.[2]

The boundaries of Ballygunner coincide with that of St. Mary's and St. Joseph & St. Benildus parishes.[citation needed] Ballygunner contains several smaller areas inside it, some that may be classified as Townlands in their own right. These are: Ballygunner Mhór, Ballygunner Castle, Knockboy, the Dunmore Road Area, Granstown, Callaghan & Ballinamuncha.[citation needed]
