Andrew 'Andy' Stirling (born 5 March 1990 in Paisley, Scotland) is a Scottish professional football player who currently plays for Dumbarton.
Career
Born in Paisley, Stirling signed a full-time contract with his home-town team St Mirren when he was 16.[1] After being let go by The Buddies at 19, he moved to Scottish Second Division side Stenhousemuir. In 2 years with the club he made over 40 appearances, however in the summer of 2011 he moved to local rivals East Stirlingshire.[2] Stirling was with The Shire for two seasons, during which time he had a brief spell with Washington State side Kitsap Pumas.[1]
Stirling returned to Scotland in July 2013, signing for Scottish League One side Stranraer. After an impressive season at Stair Park, which included being named in the 2013–14 Scottish League One Team of the Year, Stirling was given the option to return to full-time football with League One rivals Dunfermline Athletic. In May 2014, Stirling became then-manager Jim Jefferies' third signing of the summer.[1] After 15 appearances for Dunfermline, Stirling was sent on loan to Stirling Albion, with manager John Potter confirming the move had been made to allow him more game team.[3] After an unsuccessful season with Dunfermline, Stirling was released by the club.[4]
A few days after leaving The Pars, Stirling re-signed for his former club Stranraer.[5] His first appearance after rejoining Stranraer was a two-nil defeat to Queen of the South in the Scottish Challenge Cup,[6] with his first goal coming against Ayr United in August 2015.[7] After just one year with the Blues, Stirling signed for Scottish Championship side Dumbarton on a one-year deal.[8]
