Amenra is a Belgian post-metal band from Kortrijk, formed in 1999. They are known for a brooding sound and intense live performances.

History

Amenra was formed in 1999 in the West Flanders city of Kortrijk. The band was founded by vocalist Colin H. van Eeckhout and lead guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove. The two had been in the hardcore punk band Spineless and wanted to create music with more "heart and soul".[1][2]

The group began releasing their dark "Mass" albums in 2003 and eventually signed with Hypertension Records. In 2013, the ensemble joined Neurot Records to release their fifth full-length album.[3][4] The label was founded by Neurosis; a band that has been influential in Amenra's style and career.[5][6] Amenra's discography also includes DVDs, acoustic EPs, and a live album. Their live shows are intense and emotional.[7][8]
