The final of the 2008–09 DFB-Pokal season was held on May 30, 2009 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. SV Werder Bremen won with a 58th-minute goal from midfielder Mesut Özil. This was the 6th time in the clubs history that they have won the DFB-Pokal, the other five coming in 1961, 1991, 1994, 1999 and 2004. This was Bayer Leverkusen's second cup final loss of the decade, the other coming during the 2002 edition. Werder Bremen lost the last UEFA Cup final, 10 days before to Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.[1]
