Summary

Formerly the San Miguel Beermen last year, the team acquired top forward Abe King from the disbanded Toyota franchise during the off-season. Gold Eagle started out with a 92-84 win over Tanduay Rhum Makers on opening day on March 25. The Beermen won three of their first five games but lost five in a row which dropped their won-loss record to 3-7. Gold Eagle finally scored a victory against Gilbey's Gin, 99-96 on May 24, [1] to break out of a losing streak, the Beermen finish with a 4-win, 10-loss slate in the eliminations and had a lone victory in the quarterfinal round against Great Taste before being ousted from a semifinal seat by Gilbey's Gin in a replay of their do-or-die game.

In the Second All-Filipino Conference, the Beermen were winning games early, scoring three victories in their first four outings, but once again ended up below the .500 percentage mark with a 5-win, 6-loss slate after the eliminations. Gold Eagle were swept in two games by Crispa in their best-of-three quarterfinal series.

After Crispa release their import Herman Barnes, the Gold Eagle Beermen signed him up but sooner decided to replace Barnes in favor of Floyd Hooper. The Beermen were winless in six games before they beat Gilbey's Gin, 102-91 on December 4, for their first and only win in the Invitational Conference.
