The Tony Awards are a yearly awards ceremony that recognize achievement in live Broadway theatre. The award for Best Musical is one of the ceremony's longest-standing awards, having been presented each year since 1949. This is a list of winners and nominations for the Tony Award for Best Musical, typically presented to the producers of the musical. Fun Home is the most recent winner, awarded in 2015.

  • The Sound of Music and Fiorello! are the only two musicals to date to have ever tied for the Best Musical award (in 1960).
  • Passion is the shortest running winner, with 280 performances.
  • Phantom of the Opera is the longest running winner still open, with 11,279 performances as of March 8, 2015.[2]
  • The Producers has the most Tony Awards of any winner of this category, leading with 12.
  • Hallelujah, Baby! is the only show thus far to win the Best Musical Tony after it had already closed.
  • Fun Home is the first musical composed by an all-female team to win Best Musical.
