Swallows and Amazons is an upcoming British adventure film directed by Philippa Lowthorpe and written by Andrea Gibb, based on the children's novel Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome. The film stars Andrew Scott, Rafe Spall, Kelly Macdonald, Gwendoline Christie, Jessica Hynes and Harry Enfield. Principal photography began on June 21, 2015 in the Lake District. The film, which will be released in 2016, is the second to be based on the novel, following Swallows and Amazons (1974).

Cast

  • Andrew Scott as Lazlow: A new character not present in the novel, Lazlow is a secret agent pursuing Jim Turner.[1]
  • Rafe Spall as Jim Turner: The Blackett children's uncle, also known as "Captain Flint". Whereas Ransome modelled the character on himself as a novelist, the filmmakers have reimagined him based on Ransome's experiences as a spy in Russia.[1]
  • Kelly Macdonald as Mrs. Walker[1]
  • Gwendoline Christie as Mrs. Blackett[1]
  • Jessica Hynes as Mrs. Jackson[1]
  • Harry Enfield as Mr. Jackson[1]
  • Dane Hughes as John Walker[1]
  • Orla Hill as Susan Walker[1]
  • Teddie-Rose Malleson-Allen as Tatty Walker: Originally called "Titty" in the novel; for the film, the name has been changed as the original may "provoke too many sniggers".[1][2]
  • Bobby McCulloch as Roger Walker[1]
  • Seren Hawkes as Nancy Blackett[1]
  • Hannah Jayne Thorp as Peggy Blackett[1]

Production

Principal photography on the film began on June 21, 2015 in the Lake District, North West England.[1][3] The film would also be shot in Yorkshire.[3]
