- 1899 - The volunteer fire company of Laurel was organized after the great fire in June and a subsequent fire that destroyed 38 cottages and an auditorium at Del Mar Va Camp two miles north of town.
- 1904 - The Harlan and Hollingsworth Company was officially turned over to the Bethlehem Steel Corporation effectively ending shipbuilding as a major Wilmington industry.
- 1907 - The Grand Opera House hosted the musical George Washington, Jr. by George M. Cohan.
