History

The history of Palfinger dates back to 1932, with the founding of a reparation and metalworking shop for agricultural trailers, tippers and vehicle bodies by Richard Palfinger.[2] The company built its first crane in 1959, and Richard's son Hubert specialized in hydraulic loading cranes in 1964.[2] In 1974, the company opened a new assembly plant in Bergheim/Salzburg, and in 1976 patented the folding boom.[2]

The company opened a plant in Lengau in 1984, and in 1989, Palfinger exported over 90% of its production to about 70 countries.[2] In 1999, the company went public, and in 2004 acquired German crane company BISON.[2]

As of 2013, Palfinger had 32 manufacturing and assembly sites, and around 4500 outlets in over 130 countries.[1] In 2012, the group started to implement production in China.[1]

Shareholders

Around 59% of the Palfinger Group is owned by the Palfinger family, 10% by Sany Germany GmbH and around 30% is in diversified holdings.[3] 1 percent of shares are owned by Palfinger AG. Since June 1999 Palfinger has been listed on the official market of the Vienna Stock Exchange.[3] Since mid-June 2000 the shares of Palfinger AG have also been traded on the OTC market of the Stuttgart, Berlin, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt stock exchanges.[3]
