MidMichigan Health is a non-profit, integrated health care organization covering portions of 14 counties in the center of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.[7] It consists of four hospitals, two nursing homes, urgent care centers, a home health division, employed physicians, a managed care arm and other services and joint ventures.[8] It is headquartered in Midland, Michigan and affiliated with the University of Michigan Health System.

Community Benefit

During fiscal year 2009, MidMichigan Health provided almost $61 million in charity care, community benefit, and community building services for the more than 700,000 individuals.[9]

In 2012, MidMichigan Health donated 4,025 pounds of food to Michigan Harvest Gathering fundraiser sponsored by the Michigan Hospital Association.[10]

Leadership

  • Diane Postler-Slattery replaced Richard Reynolds as president and CEO in early 2013.[11] She was formerly president and COO of Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wisconsin.

History

MidMichigan Health was formed by the affiliation of hospitals in Midland and Clare, Michigan in 1984. The hospital in Gladwin, Michigan became an affiliate the following year. The hospital in Alma, Michigan became a wholly owned subsidiary in 2004. The system's early history is documented in the book A Journey of Caring by Dorthy Langdon Yates.

In August 2012, MidMichigan Health announced it was in negotiations to affiliate with the University of Michigan Health System.[12] The partnership was finalized in June, 2013. The University of Michigan Health System acquired a minority ownership stake in MidMichigan Health and two seats on the 17-member Board of Directors.[13] The affiliation better positions both organizations for health care reform.

MidMichigan Health provides consulting services to Mackinac Straits Health System although plans for acquisition of the critical access hospital in St. Ignace fell through in mid-2014.[14]
