The first season of X Factor Indonesia began on RCTI on 28 December 2012 and ended on 24 May 2013. The gala live shows starting on 22 February 2013. The twelve chosen finalists were Gede Bagus, Dicky Adam, Mikha Angelo, Isa Raja, Novita Dewi, Agus Hafiluddin, Yohanna Febrianti, Fatin Shidqia, Shena Malsiana, Dalagita, Ilusia Girls, and Nu Dimension. Anggun mentored the Boys (Gede Bagus, Mikha Angelo, and Dicky Adam), Rossa mentored the Girls (Fatin Shidqia, Shena Malsiana, and Yohanna Febrianti), Bebi Romeo mentored the Over 26s (Isa Raja, Novita Dewi, Agus Hafiluddin, and Alex Rudiart) and Ahmad Dhani mentored the Groups (Dalagita, Ilusia Girls, and Nu Dimension).[1] During showcase round, just one week before the gala show began, one previously eliminated act from each category was chosen as a wildcard, with Alex Rudiart, from the Over 26s, being voted in by the public as the thirteenth finalist.[2]

Boys

The "Boys" category was mentored by Anggun. Contestants in this category are males aged 15 to 25. The six candidates at judges' houses were: Adhi Permana, Dicky Adam, Dennis Martha, Gede Bagus, Mikha Angelo, and Steven Fasly. Anggun chose:

Gede Bagus

Gede Bagus Perdana Putra (born 14 April 1991[3]) is a musician from Bali. He previously auditioned for the sixth season of Indonesian Idol in 2010 and made it to the Workshop round. He impressed the judges at his first audition with his own rendition of Sandhy Sondoro's "Anak Jalanan" and advanced to the Bootcamp round. During the judges' home visit round, he took on James Brown's "I Feel Good" and was put through to the gala live show by his mentor, Anggun. In week 1, Gede Bagus performed KLa Project's "Tak Bisa ke Lain Hati" and received criticism from Ahmad Dhani, that predicts him to be in the bottom two.[4] However, public vote put him through to the second week of gala show. He received positive reactions from the judges in week 3 with an upbeat version of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time". He found himself to be in the bottom two with Ilusia Girls after performing Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" in week 4 of gala live show. He sang James Morrison's "You Give Me Something" in the final showdown and was saved by Rossa, Anggun, and Bebi Romeo, resulting in the elimination of Ilusia Girls. He found himself in the bottom two for the second time in week 6 after performing The Beatles' "Yesterday" as a tribute to his mother. However, he was saved by Dhani, Rossa, and Anggun, that makes him staying in the competition for another week. He tried to impress the judges and audiences again in week 7 with his own rendition of Ari Lasso's "Rahasia Perempuan". However, he was landed in the bottom two for the third time against Mikha Angelo and sang his audition song, "Anak Jalanan", in the final showdown. Despite of receiving positive feedback in the singoff, he was eliminated after Rossa, Bebi, and Dhani chose to save Mikha instead.

Mikha Angelo

Mikha Angelo Brahmanto (born 8 November 1997[5]) is a student and musician from Jakarta. Before the show, he was the lead vocal of an acoustic band, The Overtunes. He auditioned singing Michael Bublé's "Lost" and received positive feedback from the judges. During the judges' home visit round, he sang One Direction's "More Than This". His mentor, Anggun, finally put him in her final 3, making him the youngest contestant in the show, aged only 15 at the time of the gala show. In week 1, Mikha Angelo performed an acoustic version of Britney Spears's "...Baby One More Time" and was praised by the judges. In week 3, he sang Ed Sheeran's "The A Team". He was praised by Rossa after performing Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" in week 4, stating his bravery to sing out of his own zone.[6] He received some positive comments after performing Queen's "Love of My Life" in week 6. Mikha was landed in the bottom two with Gede Bagus in week 7 after singing Coldplay's "Viva la Vida". He was saved by Rossa, Bebi, and Dhani after performing Jason Mraz's "I Won't Give Up" in the final showdown, causing the elimination of Gede Bagus. He was eliminated in the semi-final week after receiving the fewest public votes, causing him to finish at fourth place.

Dicky Adam

Dicky Adam Siregar (born 4 July 1993[7]) is a freelance from Jakarta. He impressed the judges with his unique vocal ability when he first auditioned with his own version of Nat King Cole's "L-O-V-E". At judges' home visit round, he sang Lana Del Rey's "Dark Paradise" and was chosen by Anggun to be in her final 3. During the first live show, he performed his own rendition of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Despite receiving positive feedback from the judges, he was put in the bottom two with Ilusia Girls by public vote and sang Adele's "My Same" in the final showdown. The judges failed to achieve the majority votes as only Anggun and Bebi Romeo voted in favour of Dicky Adam. As a result, the judges' votes were deadlocked after Rossa controversially decided to save Ilusia Girls and Dicky Adam was eliminated as the act with the fewest public votes. After his elimination, his mentor, Anggun, stated her disappointment and felt that public was not ready to accept Dicky's personality.[8]

Girls

The "Girls" category was mentored by Rossa. Contestants in this category are females aged 15 to 25. The seven candidates at judges' houses were: Yohanna Febrianti, Shena Malsiana, Fatin Shidqia, Theresia Dina, Pratami Marja Jeliana, Melissa Putri, and Nurul Fadhila. Rossa chose:

Fatin Shidqia

Fatin Shidqia Lubis (born 30 July 1996[9]) is a student from Jakarta. She amazed the judges in her audition after singing her own version of Bruno Mars' "Grenade" and received a lot of positive feedback among social media users.[10] During the Bootcamp round, she sang Agnes Monica's "Rindu" in a group performance and forgot some of the lyrics. Despite of this, the judges still put her through to the next round of bootcamp where she performed Foster The People's "Pumped Up Kicks". At the judges' home visit round, she performed Dewa 19's "Cinta Kan Membawamu Kembali" and was put through to the gala live show by her mentor, Rossa. She sang Rihanna's "Diamonds" during the showcase week and received positive feedback from the judges, where Anggun stated that she had a strong vocal character. She sang Adele's "Rumour Has It" in week 1 and Rossa's "Pudar" in week 2, where she was praised by the judges on both performances. In week 4, she performed her own version of No Doubt's "Don't Speak" where Bebi Romeo criticized that she should have chosen another song. She sang Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain" in week 6 and Duffy's "Mercy" in week 7 and received positive comments from the judges on both performances. She was announced as the winner on 24 May 2013. Her winner's single is "Aku Memilih Setia".

Shena Malsiana

Shena Malsiana (born 14 October 1991[11]) is a college student from Jakarta. She wowed the judges with jazz version of Mbah Surip's "Tak Gendong" during her first audition. In the final Bootcamp round, she again impressed the judges with her recycled version of Zee Avi's "Kantoi". At the judges' home visit round, she sang Etta James' "At Last" and was chosen by Rossa to be in her final 3. During the showcase week, she sang her own recycled version of Iceu Wong's "Pacar Lima Langkah" and praised by the judges.[12] In week 1, she sang Aretha Franklin's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and Ahmad Dhani praised her musical style. She sang Titiek Puspa's "Cinta" in week 2 and Adele's "Turning Tables" in week 3, where she received positive feedback from the judges. In week 5, she performed Vonny Sumlang's "Ratu Sejagad" and praised by the judges. Despite of this, she found herself in the bottom two with Agus Hafiluddin and sang Johnny Mathis' "Misty" in the final showdown. Rossa, Anggun, and Dhani voted to save Shena, resulting in Agus Hafiluddin being eliminated. She sang a soulful rendition of Radiohead's "Creep" in the following week and was praised by the judges. In week 8, she sang her own version of "Aku Bukan Bang Toyib" and "No One". She received positive feedback from the judges, where Anggun claimed that she enjoyed Shena's performance and Bebi stated that Shena was ready to make record.[13] Shena was eliminated after receiving the fewest public votes in week 10 and finished fifth in the competition.

Yohanna Febrianti

Yohanna Febrianti Hera (born 7 February 1990[14]) is a college student from Malang. She suffered from glaucoma, causing her to lose her eyesight after graduating from high school. She advanced to the Bootcamp round after touched the judges with an emotional rendition of Beyoncé's "Listen". At the judges' home visit round, she sang Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine's "1-2-3". Her mentor, Rossa, chose Yohanna to join her in the gala live show. During the showcase week, she performed Cakra Khan's "Harus Terpisah" and received positive feedback from Anggun, stated her sincerity in singing. In week 3, she performed Ruth Sahanaya's "Cinta Ini Takkan Mati". Despite receiving positive comments from the judges, she found herself in the bottom two with Isa Raja. Rossa and Dhani voted to save her, however Anggun and Bebi voted to save Isa Raja, resulting the judges' votes to be deadlocked. She was eliminated after receiving fewest public votes in week 3.

Over 26s

The "Over 26s" category was mentored by Bebi Romeo. Contestants in this category are either gender aged 26 and over. The eight candidates at judges' houses were: Agus Hafiluddin, Alex Rudiart, Novita Dewi, Syarifah Raykhan, Isa Raja, Taufik Hidayat, Lisa Sulistyowati, and Dwi Soraya. Bebi chose:

Isa Raja

Isa Raja (born 31 December 1979[15]) is a photographer from Jakarta. He auditioned singing Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" and advanced to the Bootcamp round. At the judges' home visit round, he sang Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" and was chosen by Bebi Romeo to be his final 3. In week 1, he sang R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion". He received some positive feedback after performing Dewa 19's "Aku Cinta Kau dan Dia" in week 2. However, despite of this, he was in the bottom two with Dalagita and sang Paramore's "The Only Exception" in the final showdown. He was saved by Rossa, Anggun, and Bebi, resulting in the elimination of Dalagita. In week 3, he amazed the judges with his own rendition of U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name". However, he was landed to the bottom two for the second time with Yohanna Febrianti and sang The Killers' "Human" in the final showdown. Anggun and Bebi voted in his favor, however Dhani and Rossa voted to save Yohanna. As a result, the judges' votes were deadlocked and reverted to the public vote. It turned out that Yohanna Febrianti had received fewer votes than Isa Raja, causing him to stay in the competition for another week.[16] In week 4, he sang Tracy Chapman's "Give Me One Reason" where Anggun commented that he should not be in the bottom two at all.[17] The public vote on that week finally revealed that Isa Raja didn't have to face the final showdown for three consecutive weeks. He received positive feedback after performing Sting's "Englishman in New York" in week 6. He found himself to be in the bottom two for the third time with Nu Dimension after performing "Separuh Nafas" and "Come Together" in week 8. The judges' votes were deadlocked as only Anggun and Bebi that voted in his favor, causing him to be eliminated after receiving the fewest public votes.

Novita Dewi

Novita Dewi Marpaung (born 15 November 1978[18]) is a musician from Medan. Before the show, she has been involved in several singing competition, such as Cipta Pesona Bintang, Asia Bagus, and Suara Remaja Vinolia RCTI. She was also the winner of Astana Song Festival 2005 in Kazakhstan. She auditioned for X Factor Indonesia singing Beyoncé's "If I Were a Boy" and claimed that she was motivated by a dream her younger brother had before his death. At the judges' home visit round, she sang Whitney Houston's "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" and was chosen by Bebi Romeo to be his final 3. During the showcase week, she amazed the judges with rock version of Peterpan's "Langit Tak Mendengar" where Rossa was surprised with the interpretation. In week 1, she sang Beyoncé's "Love on Top". She was praised by the judges after performing Rita Effendy's "Selamat Jalan Kekasih" in week 2 and Agnes Monica's "Cinta di Ujung Jalan" in week 3. She sang Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" in week 4 and Anggun stated her interest to buy her record.[19] She sang Christina Aguilera's "Can't Hold Us Down" in week 6 and received criticism from Ahmad Dhani who felt that the song was not suitable for her. Novita was praised by the judges in the following week after performing Demi Lovato's "Skyscraper". Novita Dewi finished as the runner-up of the show on 24 May 2013.

Agus Hafiluddin

Agus Hafiluddin (born 12 August 1985[20]) is a radio presenter from Balikpapan. He wowed the judges with his rendition of Michael Bublé's "Home". At the judges' home visit round, he sang Daughtry's "September". His mentor, Bebi Romeo, put him through to the gala live show. In week 1, he sang Afgan's "Sadis". He received positive feedback in week 3 after singing Michael Bublé's version of Ella Fitzgerald's "Cry Me a River". In week 4, he sang Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris" and was praised by the judges. Despite receiving positive comments from the judges, he found himself in the bottom two with Shena Malsiana after performing Once's "Dealova" in week 5. After performing Michael Bublé's "Home" in the final showdown, he was eliminated with only his mentor, Bebi, voting in his favor.

Alex Rudiart

Alex Rudiart Hutajulu (born 13 June 1985[21]) is a musician from Bandung. He auditioned with Queen's "Somebody to Love" and was praised by the judges. He was initially eliminated by Bebi Romeo at judges' home visit round after singing Mika's "Grace Kelly". However, during showcase week, Bebi chose him to be the wildcard from Over 26s category and finally advanced to the live shows after receiving the most votes from the public. In week 1, he was praised by the judges after singing Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven". In week 3, he sang Fun feat. Janelle Monáe's "We Are Young". However, he received criticism from Anggun that doubts his ability to perform well without dancers and Ahmad Dhani that felt Alex lacks in character.[22] In week 4, he sang Iklim's "Suci dalam Debu". He sang Aerosmith's "Crazy" in week 6 and found himself in the bottom two with Gede Bagus for the first time. He sang Adam Lambert's "Time for Miracles" in the final showdown and was controversially eliminated with only his mentor, Bebi, voting in his favor.[23]

Groups

The "Groups" category was mentored by Ahmad Dhani. Contestants in this category are duos or vocal groups and all members must be aged 15 or over. The five candidates at judges' houses were: Dalagita, Awan, Jad n Sugy, Nu Dimension, and Ilusia Girls. Dhani chose:

Dalagita

Dalagita are a six-piece girl group from Bandung made up of Nanda Rizky Fitriani Syahrudin (born 9 October 1996), Sanya Vidya Dharizky (born 15 April 1997), Aldilla Magistra (born 7 September 1997), Putri Chika Desiyanti (born 29 December 1995), Fatia Shafira (born 5 July 1997), and Aulia Hasna Wardiyana (born 25 February 1997).[24] Aged between 15 and 16 at the time of audition, they performed Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" in their first audition and received positive feedback from the judges. At the judges' home visit round, they sang Maudy Ayunda's "Tiba-Tiba Cinta Datang" and were chosen by Ahmad Dhani to join his final 3. In week 1, they sang the soundtrack of The Sound of Music, "My Favorite Things" and received positive feedback from the judges, where Rossa admitted that as their best performance in the competition. However, they found themselves in the bottom two with Isa Raja after performing Dewa 19's "Roman Picisan" in week 2. They sang another soundtrack from The Sound of Music, "The Lonely Goatherd" in the final showdown and were eliminated with only their mentor, Dhani, voting in their favor.

Ilusia Girls

Ilusia Girls are a four-piece girlband made up of Iin Nur Indah Sahib (born 7 July 1994, from Makassar), Annisa Aprilia Baawad (born 29 April 1997, from Makassar), Amalia Ayu Saraswati (born 7 June 1997, from Semarang), and Lusi Hasiana Sibarani (born 24 May 1990, from Yogyakarta).[25] The members were initially auditioned as soloists, however failed to make it through to the Girls category in the final Bootcamp round. The judges then called them back and put them together as a group.[26] At the judges' home visit round, they sang David Guetta feat. Sia's "Titanium" and were chosen by Dhani to join the live shows. Just few hours before the first live show begins, one of the members, Iin, was feeling unwell after stumbled herself. Despite of this, they still performed Shontelle's "Impossible" with a modified choreography. At the same day, they found themselves in the bottom two with Dicky Adam and sang Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain". Dhani and Rossa voted in their favour, however Bebi and Anggun voted to save Dicky instead. As a result, the votes were deadlocked and it turned out that Dicky Adam received fewer votes, causing Ilusia Girls to stay in the competition for another week. In week 2, they performed Mahadewi's "Satu-Satunya Cinta". Rossa agreed that they have improved compared than the week before. In week 3, they performed Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" and received positive feedback from the judges. They were in the bottom two for the second time after performing Bryan Adams' "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" and sang Lady Gaga's "You and I" in the final showdown. They were eliminated with only their mentor, Dhani, voting in their favor.

Nu Dimension

Nu Dimension are a four-piece boyband made up of Romy Syalasa Putra (born 11 January 1987, from Jakarta), Johanan Ariel Matulessy (born 6 November 1994, from Makassar), Bagus Cahya Adi (born 24 August 1991, from Yogyakarta), and Ryan Hartanto Tedja (born 27 April 1995, from Surabaya).[27] They successfully auditioned as soloists, but were rejected at the final Bootcamp round. The judges then called them back and put them together as a group.[26] They performed Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" at the judges' home visit round and was selected to join Dhani in the live shows. In week 1, they sang George Michael's "Careless Whisper" and received positive feedback from the judges. They successfully surprised the judges after performing Michael Jackson's "Thriller" with Halloween-themed setting in week 3. In week 4, they sang Brian McKnight's "One Last Cry". In week 6, they sang Queen's "Killer Queen" and received mixed feedback from the judges, where some judges were not impressed with the song choice. Despite of this, they received another praise from the judges in the following week after performing Britney Spears' "Toxic". In week 8, they sang "Istimewa" and "Don't You Worry Child". Despite receiving positive feedback from the judges, they were in the bottom two with Isa Raja and sang "After the Love Has Gone" for survival. Dhani and Rossa voted in their favor, but Anggun and Bebi voted to save Isa Raja instead, causing the judges' votes to be deadlocked and reverted to the public vote. It was then revealed that Isa Raja received fewer votes, causing Nu Dimension to stay in the competition for another week. Nu Dimension was eliminated at the first round of the grand final on 17 May 2013, causing them to finish at third place.
