Helcim is a merchant account provider focused on e-commerce, retail, virtual, mobile credit card processing for businesses registered in Canada and the USA.

History

Helcim was launched in the summer of 2008 by a team of software developers and entrepreneurs.

Beginning as an eCommerce alternative for shopping cart integration, Helcim has moved into retail, MOTO, virtual and mobile payment processing solutions.

  • January 2008 – Helcim launches eCommerce payment buttons for online businesses.
  • January 21, 2010 – Helcim is selected as Calgary Chamber of Commerce preferred credit card processor.[1]
  • September 6, 2012 – Helcim gets rid of contract closure fees.[2]
  • July 19, 2013 – Helcim is chosen as Calgary Heralds startup of the week.[3]
  • November 20, 2014 – Helcim becomes the first credit card processor to reduce interchange fees in Canada.[4]
  • March 14, 2016 – Helcim unlocks free access to SDK files and code samples for Semi-integrated POS. Software developers are open to using Helcim's code samples and SDK files in their projects through the Helcim Hybrid EMV POS Developer Portal [5]
  • March 20, 2016 – Helcim opens the door to their affiliate / partner program. Businesses and individuals within Canada and the USA are now available to receive payments for sharing Helcim's services with their network as affiliate marketing partner. [6]

Pricing

Helcim follows a Interchange+ (Cost-plus) pricing model which focuses on low variable transaction rates in exchange for a monthly fixed rate. Helcim's merchant account services are month-to-month and require no monthly-minimums. The company provides payment resources for entrepreneurs and outlines up to date interchange rates for each credit card network on their site.
