Production

Development

In February 2016, it was announced Jessica Chastain and Josh Brolin would star as Tammy Wynette and George Jones in a biographical film.[1] In September 2020, it was announced the film would instead be a limited series, based upon the book The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George by Georgette Jones, with Brolin no longer attached, instead serving as an executive producer.[2] John Hillcoat will direct all six-episodes of the series.[3] Chastain's production company, Freckle Films is set to executive produce.

Casting

Upon the limited series announcement, Jessica Chastain was set to star as Tammy Wynette.[2] In December 2021, it was announced that Michael Shannon was to play George Jones and Steve Zahn was to play George Richey.[3][4] In January 2022, Kelly McCormack and Katy Mixon joined the cast of the series, in guest starring roles.[5]

Filming

Principal photography began on December 8, 2021, in North Carolina.[6][7]
