Francis P. Donnelly

Francis Patrick Donnelly SJ (10 December 1869 – 18 April 1959) was an American Roman Catholic priest, poet, hymn composer, education writer and professor of rhetoric at Fordham University.[1]

Biography

He was born at Pittston, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, and was educated at Villanova College and St. John's College. After joining the Jesuits in 1888, he continued his education at Jesuit Teachers College, and Woodstock College, and was ordained in 1903.

Francis Donnelly taught classics and rhetoric for fifty years, at Boston College (1895–1898) and (1920–1922), College of the Holy Cross (1898–1900) and (1916–1920), at Jesuit Teachers College (1906–1915) and (1922–1929), and at Fordham from 1929, also serving as rector of St. Aloysius Church (1915–1916).

He died at Poughkeepsie, in Dutchess County, New York.
