Dhaffir Harris (born August 4, 1977) is a mixed martial artist and actor. He starred in Dawg Fight which is about illegal street fighting in parts of America which he used to film and take part in. He left this lifestyle and started to take up sanctioned fighting with his most notable MMA fight with Kimbo Slice at Bellator 149: Gracie vs Shamrock.[3]

Dawg Fighting
Dhaffir Harris, star of the Netflix documentary Dawg Fight, remembers a time when he was at a crossroads with Team Kimbo. As Harris recalls, he wanted to step away from his role of entourage tough guy and continue promoting unsanctioned backyard fights, the very type that had made Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson an Internet sensation. "They saw it different, so I went my separate route," Harris told MMAjunkie Radio. "They told me I was making the biggest mistake of my life."[4]
While Slice was trying to go legit as a MMA star, Harris put on more and more backyard shows in his hometown of Perrine, Fla. Eventually, he had something resembling a professional event, though they were still technically illegal in the eyes of state regulators. The rawness of the talent in his makeshift ring, the unfiltered violence that transpired when two men began winging punches, the characters that popped up at events – all of it was exactly the type of story for Billy Corben, the filmmaker behind the popular Cocaine Cowboys documentaries.
It took five years to finish, but Dawg Fight was eventually released. in what became the film's finale Harris followed in Slice's footsteps, becoming a professional MMA fighter in 2010.
Mixed martial arts career
Harris' first fight was against Cedric James where he won by KO in within less than 3 minuets of the first round.
Harris' next fight was against Tim Papp where he won by TKO within 50 seconds of the first round.
Bellator
Harris then took on long time friend turned rival Kimbo Slice at Bellator 149 where he lost by KO. However, Slice tested positive for nandrolone and elevated (T/E)ratio so the decision was overturned and deemed a no contest. Discussions had been taken place a short time after the fight about Harris' return to Bellator but due to the heart attacks and injuries Scott Coker, the current Bellator president, decided against it.
Near death experience
Harris was hospitalised after his TKO loss to Slice - he had to be stretched away and given oxygen. This could be the result of extreme training as he had cut 40lbs to make weight for the fight. On the Wednesday a few days after the fight, Harris took to Instagram to say he had two heart attacks during the contest and "died during the fight." "Yes I trained very hard for this fight and I was in Fighting Shape," Harris said before the post was deleted. "But those who knew me they knew that something wasn't right by the look in my eyes when I stepped into that ring. Yes I did have kidney failure during the fight I also had 2 heart attacks which I did code aka Died during the Fight," he added.[5]
