Previous season
The Buckeyes finished the 2018–19 season 20–15, 8–12 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for eighth place. As the No. 8 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, they defeated Indiana in the second round before losing to Michigan State in the quarterfinals. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 11 seed in the Midwest region. There they upset Iowa State in the First Round before losing to Houston in the Second Round.
