History

New terminal and second runway
In 2013, China's State Council approved the expansion of Zhengzhou's airport in alignment with its first zone for an Airport-based Economy (ZAEZ),[1] the construction of a new terminal and runway began in earnest. Currently under construction, the new terminal will consist of 470,000m2 of terminal building, an additional 77 aircraft parking stands and six de-icing stations. A second runway will run parallel to the north of the current runway. Operations testing is currently due to be scheduled by December, 2015.[2] By 2030, the project calls for a total of five runways capable of handling 70 million passengers annually.
Recent developments
In late 2015 Emirates announced it would begin service to Zhengzhou via Yinchuan from May 2016, as part of the airline's expansion plans in China. This is Zhengzhou's first nonstop connection to the Middle East.[3]
