Xinmin Secondary School (abbreviation: XMS) is an autonomous secondary school in Hougang, Singapore. It offers classes taught in English, Chinese, Malay and Punjabi.
The school was founded as Sen Min School in 1945. Secondary school classes began in 1952.[1][2] As of Dec 2003, the Principal was Low-Sim Ay Nar. In September 2005, the school won the School Excellence Award, the first neighbourhood school to win the award.[3] In December 2006, Liew Wei Li became principal. In December 2010, Ong Hong Peng took over from Liew Wei Li as principal of Xinmin Secondary School.[4]
Contents
History
Goh Tong Pak led the school to become in the top 20 Value-Added Schools in Singapore from 1992 to 1993.[5] Under the leadership of Mr Lee Hak Boon, the school attained autonomous status from the Ministry of Education with effect from 2001.[6]
In the same year, the school was accorded the Singapore Quality Class accreditation.[7]
From being a neighbourhood school attracting students with Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) aggregate scores of around 191 in 1994, the school is the recipient of the School Excellence Award, the most prestigious award a school can ever receive from the Singapore Ministry of Education.[8] Today, it attracts students with PSLE aggregate scores of approximately 245 (as of 2007) to its Express stream.[9]

Relation with Other Schools
Xinmin Secondary School, Nan Chiau High School & Yishun Town Secondary School hold combined sports meets yearly since 2013 to give student athletes from the participating schools a platform to showcase their physical talent and also for the schools to unite together to celebrate and enjoy. Apart from the inter-school competitions among students, parent-teacher races are also featured to engage the parents and school staff.[11]
