Jason Michael Bosak Diakité[1] (born 11 January 1975 in Lund), known under the stage name Timbuktu, is a Swedish rapper and reggae artist. Earlier in the mid-1990s, he started as part of the rap group Excel before going solo as Timbuktu. He has won many awards.

Biography

He is the son of Madubuko Diakité, a US born Swedish human rights lawyer and academic.Jason Diakite has an older sister (Leathione Diakite Prinze Jr, formerly (Adadieafrikanwe Ajuluchukuprinze) by Madubuko Diakite who found out via DNA testing that neither she nor Jason have a direct Nigerian lineage, but in fact are descendants of the Central African Nation of Gabon along with various other nations from Jason's mother's side and his sister's mother side. Madubuko seems to have no interest in addressing the Gabon connection in any way but has maintained his story of being of Nigerian descent. His stories of have America Indian blood ties however have turn out to be somewhat true. Jason suffered from severe depression during the late 90's during his stay in New York. He moved back to Sweden where his depression continued. It is said rap saved his life by giving him an outlet to vent his emotions.[1]

Timbuktu has been hosting the music aid radio/television show Musikhjälpen for several years.
