Synova Capital is a private equity firm specialising in investments in UK growth companies.[1] The firm manages capital on behalf of institutional investors and family offices and invests across five sectors: business services, financial services, technology, consumer brands and healthcare and education.[2]
Synova was founded in 2007 by its managing partners, David Menton[3] and Philip Shapiro.[4]
Synova was awarded 'Young Firm of the Year' at The Private Equity Awards 2014,[5] and 'Small Buyout House of the Year' at the 'UK Private Equity Awards'.
Clearwater Care was one of the finalists for ‘Specialist Care Provider of the Year’ at the HealthInvestor Awards 2013.[6] Kinapse was ranked 69th in the 2014 Sunday Times Fast Track 100,[7] and TLG Brands was ranked 30th in the 2012 Sunday Times International Track 200.[8]
Portfolio
- Synova acquired TLG Brands[9] in July 2008 - owner of Fiorelli, the affordable luxury handbag brand. TLG also owns the NICA and Modalu fashion labels.[10]
- In September 2009, Synova acquired Clearwater Care[11] - a provider of residential care and supported living services to adults with learning disabilities.[10]
- In 2010, Synova acquired dbg[12] - which provides dental services to its 4500 practice members. Synova sold dbg in April 2013 to dental group IDH, generating a 5.8x return and a 77% IRR for the firm.[13]
- Synova's made an investment into life sciences outsourcing firm Kinapse in September 2012.[10]
- Synova's made an investment in July 2013 into Mandata, a provider of software solutions to the logistics sector.[10][14]
- Synova's invested into MK Test in September 2014, a provider of automated testing solutions to the aerospace, transport and oil and gas industries.[10]
- Synova invested into Stackhouse Poland in December 2014, a provider of insurance solutions to High Net Worth individuals.[10]
- Synova invested in the MBO of Defaqto in March 2015, an provider of information to the wealth and retail financial services markets.[10]
- Synova supported the MBO of 4Ways Healthcare in June 2015, a provider of teleradiology services to the healthcare sector.[10]
- Synova supported the MBO of Fleetway Travel in July 2015, a technology led provider of exclusive luxury travel deals.[10]
- Synova invested in Merit Software in September 2015, a provider of settlement software solutions to Tier One Investment Banks. [10]
- Synova supported the MBO of Vistair in December 2015, a provider of compliance based software solutions to the airline industry.[10]
Recent business
In August 2013, Synova completed raising £110 million in capital for its second fund.[15][16]
