Jharsa is a large village in Gurgaon Mandal in Gurgaon District in Haryana State, India. Jharsa is 2.499 km away from the Mandal Main Town, Gurgaon, and 9.7 km from the District's main city of Gurgaon. It is located 254 km distance from the State's main city, Chandigarh. It has a population of about 32907 persons living in around 8689 households.[1] Jharsa is a very old and big village mainly dominated by Jats.Main localities and sectors near Jharsa include Mohyal colony, Patel Nagar, Kirti Nagar and Sector 15, Sector 31, Sector 32, Sector 39, Sector 40, Sector 46, Indra Colony Part - 1 & 2 etc.

Before division of India in 1947, Jharsa had a significant Muslim population. Pashtuns, who settled here from Rohailkhand and Delhi after the events in 1857, constituted the majority. Chughtai Mughals from Delhi and Syeds from Ajmer also found refuge here, the latter were granted lands by the last Mughal rulers. The Village heroes were Ch.Galam Singh Kilhore & Ch. Bakhtawar Singh Thakran who were hanged to Death by British Government for killing of two English Officer in 1857.

The People of Jharsa

The village gives famous players for India. One was Pritam Rani Siwach (Former Women Hockey Team Captain of India) and the Other was the wrestler Virender Singh (Thakran) (Dheeraj Pahalwan) who had won bronze medal in Junior World wrestling Championship and won Silver medal in Commonwealth Championship in 1995.

Oldest Ramlila (Shri Krishan Mandir Ramlila) in Gurgaon (Start from 1879)

The Ramlila has been organized in Jharsa since last 135 years. Baba Jugaldas ji maharaj had started to make Shri Krishan Mandir and completed it in the year 1813. At that time Jharsa had a muslim majority. It was in under of Begum Samru. Baba Jugaldas Maharaj was come from a Jat family in the village. He was a great devotee of Lord Shri Krishan. He hand out money from village people to make the temple of Shri Krishan. After the making of Shri Krishan Mandir Baba Jugaldas had first organised Ramlila in year 1879 at the ground of Shri Krishan Mandir. At that time only 2 place where the Ramlila was played; one was Pataudi where the Nawab of Pataudi had started Ramlila and the other was village Jharsa. After that in 1881 Munim ji had took Ramlila on Ram Talab. There Ramlila was played for 100 years. After that Ramlila Divided and one part was again played at the ground of Shri Krishan Mandir Jharsa and other was at Ram Lila Ground Chotta school.

  • Ch. Galam Singh Kilhore (Freedom fighter of India, c. 1857 Founder of Jharsa & first President of Jharsa 365 khaap). He was the first martyr of Gurgaon.
  • Akshit Thakran son of Sh.Naresh Thakran. Most popular off road and Rally driver. Won 7 Off road troffy.
  • Bhakhtawar Singh Thakran (Freedom fighter of India, c. 1857 & President of Jharsa 360 Khaap)
  • Captain Uday Singh Kilhore (24-11-1912 to 20-06-1972) was a freedom fighter of INA (Indian National Army) who fought under the leadership of Subhash Chandra Bose for the freedom of India. He also fought in World War-2 in the countries Burma, Singapore and Thailand. Haryana Govt has honoured him by naming a road on his name which is from Rajiv chowk to the office of District Soldier Board, Sadar Bazaar via civil lines.
