Jagmal Singh was a a sixteenth century Indian court figure.

Biography

Maharana Udai Singh II's favorite wife, Dheerbai Bhattiyani, wanted Jagmal to succeed Maharana Udai Singh after his death. On his deathbed, Udai Singh II named Jagmal as the next Maharana. Jagmal was to be crowned as Maharana of Udaipur in 1572; however, the nobles of the court instead crowned Maharana Pratap.

After this disgrace, Jagmal Singh swore revenge and left to join the Mughals. Akbar gave the jagir of Ajmer to Jagmal for a brief time. However, after a short battle between the Mughals, Akbar had to give half his jagir to The Mughals and the other half to Jagmal. The ruler of Sirohi to whom the Jagir belonged attacked Jagmal and the ruler, Raj Al Shariff. Jagmal Singh was killed in the resulting conflict. His death is believed to have occurred in the year 1574, two years before the legendary Battle of Haldighati.[1][2] However, some sources state that he died in 1583.
