I.E.K. or IEK (Greek: Ινστιτούτο Επαγγελματικής Κατάρτισης) is a public or private Institute[a] of Vocational Training in Greece.

Public and private I.E.K.

Public and private I.E.K. offer training courses accredited by the Ministry of Education & Religious Affairs, Culture & Sports and O.E.E.K. (Greek: Οργανισμός Εκπαίδευσης και Επαγγελματικής Κατάρτισης, Organization of Vocational Education and Training).[1]

There are over 100 public I.E.K. [1] in the Regions of: East Macedonia & Thrace,[2] Central Macedonia,[3] West Macedonia,[4] Epirus,[5] Thessaly,[6] Ionian Islands,[7] Western Greece,[8] Central Greece,[9] Attica,[10] Peloponnese,[11] North Aegean,[12] South Aegean,[13] Crete.[14]

There are also over 50 private I.E.K. [2] (also rendered as I.I.E.K, where first 'I' stands for Greek: Ιδιωτικό, Private) recognized by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs and supervised/controlled by O.E.E.K..[15][16]

Awards and accreditation

Certificate of Vocational Training

(Greek: Βεβαίωση Επαγγελματικής Κατάρτισης) Assessment: progress tests; final examinations at the end of each semester.[18]

Obtained after successfully completing a training course (2 years FT, 4 semesters).

Diploma of Vocational Training / Accreditation

(Greek: Δἰπλωμα Επαγγελματικής Κατάρτισης / Πιστοποίηση) After completing the course and obtaining the certificate, trainees from public and private I.E.K. can follow a work placement and they are eligible to sit on biannual National Accreditation Examinations (Greek: Εξετάσεις Πιστοποίησης), both in written and oral form.[18] The names of successful candidates in each examination are published on ΕΟΠΠΕΠ website.

The last updates (Greek only) on professional accreditation for each speciality are published also at O.E.E.K.'s website.[19]

Europass supplement

A Europass Certificate or Diploma Supplement is also available in Greek and English language.[20]
