Dravo's over 16,000 workers produced a total of 145 LSTs. This and four other inland yards, all using techniques pioneered by Dravo, contributed two-thirds of the Navy's fleet of over 1,000 LSTs. These amphibious craft proved vital to the success of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allies_of_World_War_II" class="extiw" title="en:Allies of World War II">Allied</a> landings on enemy shores, 1943-45. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania_Historical_and_Museum_Commission" class="extiw" title="en:Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission">Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission</a> 1995".

To the left of the historical marker, an old cannon from the 1700s sits on the ground. On it, there's a plaque that says the following: "Cannon of American <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-of-war" class="extiw" title="en:Man-of-war">Man-of-War</a> - Used in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penobscot_Expedition" class="extiw" title="en:Penobscot Expedition">Penobscot Expedition</a> - Commodore <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dudley_Saltonstall" class="extiw" title="en:Dudley Saltonstall">Dudley Saltonstall</a>, Commanding - August 14, 1779 - Recovered from river bottom during excavations for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangor,_Maine" class="extiw" title="en:Bangor, Maine">Bangor</a>-<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brewer,_Maine" class="extiw" title="en:Brewer, Maine">Brewer, Maine</a> bridge substructure September, 1953 by Dravo Corporation, Pittsburgh".
