Summary

The plaque accompanying the Great Courland Bay Monument in Plymouth, Tobago commemorates 17th-century <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:Courland_colonization_of_the_Americas" class="extiw" title="w:en:Courland colonization of the Americas">Courlander (Couronian) colonists</a>, who were among the earliest settlers in the area.
The monument itself, a modernist sculpture comprised of tall beige cylinders and a series of steps, made in 1978, is not shown in the photo. The inscription on the plaque reads:

“In memory of the bold, enterprising and industrious Courlanders from faraway Latvia on the Baltic shores who had lived in this area, named after them, from 1636 to 1663.
[Date of dedication:] 25-6-78. Sculptor: Janis Mintiks”
