Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc., a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, is a company that designs and manufactures medical devices and surgical instruments with the intent of minimizing the invasiveness of surgery.
The company's headquarters is in Blue Ash, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition to manufacturing surgical instruments, the company provides training for surgeons.

History

On June 22, 1988 the world's first laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal) was performed. From here, the stage was set for the growth of minimally invasive surgical procedures.
In 1990, a group of product directors from Ethicon Inc.,(the sister company in Somerville New Jersey), began developing other endoscopic devices to accommodate the burgeoning field of minimally invasive surgery.
Ethicon Endo-Surgery was part of Ethicon Inc. until 1992, when it became a separate corporate entity under the J&J umbrella. That same year, the Endo-Surgery Institute was opened, in Blue Ash, Ohio, to provide an educational environment to which surgeons, nurses, and other health care professionals could learn more about minimally invasive surgery.

Ethicon Endo-Surgery operates a sterilization and packaging operation located in Albuquerque, NM.
