Dubioza kolektiv, also known as Dubioza, is a Bosnian band[2][3]currently consisting of seven members. The band's music incorporates various styles including reggae, dub,[4] and rock, and makes use of political, anti-nationalist lyrics.

History

Dubioza kolektiv is a band from Bosnia and Herzegovina, founded in 2003 by Adis Zvekić and Almir Hasanbegović (former members of Gluho doba against Def Age from Zeneca) along with Brano Jakubović and Vedran Mujagić (former members of Ornamenti from Sarajevo). The band was later joined by guitarist Armin Bušatlić, drummer Senad Šuta, sound engineer Dragan Jakubović, and in 2011 by saxophonist Mario Ševarac.

Dubioza kolektiv

Gramofon records released Dubioza's first self-titled album in April 2004.[4] In December 2004, Dubioza kolektiv second CD was released: EP Open Wide containing tracks featuring dub poet Benjamin Zephaniah and Mush Khan from Pakistani-UK band Fun-da-mental.[5] In June 2006 Dubioza Kolektiv released a new album on Gramofon record company. The album Dubnamite, containing ten new songs, was recorded in 2005/2006. Guests on the album are De-fence and a French artist Niköll (Nicolas Cante).[6]

Wild Wild East

Dubioza kolektiv's 2011 album, Wild Wild East, has garnered international attention. Most of the songs are in English. Critics have generally given it good reviews and cited the of mixing so many styles of music. Also the album won the Best Adria Act in MTV European Awards 2011.[7]

Happy Machine (EP)

Happy Machine, Dubioza kolektiv’s second EP, consists of three tracks: two in English and one in Spanish. "No Escape (from Balkan)" talks about a "gastarbeiter" who left his homeland in search for a better life in the West. The second song, "Free.mp3", is dedicated to founders of The Pirate Bay: Gottfrid Svartholm and Peter Sunde, who have been incarcerated for their creation of the site in Denmark and Sweden respectively. The song questions copyright in the digital age, privacy on the Internet, and freedom of information. Spanish band La Pegatina is guest in song “Hay Libertad”. The song is sung entirely in Spanish, a first for the band.

The artwork for the CD cover is designed by Vedran Mujagić and the music video for "No Escape (from Balkan)" was directed by Salem Kapić Kantardžić.
