W. J. Derek Howes (birth registered January–March 1913 (age 110–111)[1]) birth registered in Pontardawe district, is a Welsh rugby union and professional rugby league footballer of the 1940s and '50s, playing club level rugby union (RU) for Llanelli RFC, and playing representative level rugby league (RL) for Wales, and at club level for Wakefield Trinity (Heritage #550), as a Second-row, i.e. number 11 or 12, during the era of contested scrums.[2]

Challenge Cup final appearances
Derek Howes played Right-Second-row, i.e. number 12 in Wakefield Trinity's 13-12 victory over Wigan in the 1946 Challenge Cup final during the 1945–46 season Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 4 May 1946.[4]
County Cup Final Appearances
Derek Howes played Left-Second-row, i.e. number 11, in Wakefield Trinity's 17-3 victory over Keighley in the 1951 Yorkshire Cup final during the 1951–52 season at Fartown Ground, Huddersfield on Saturday 27 October 1951.[5]
