Vedute or views of landscape encompass paintings mainly focused on landscapes and seascapes, both in rural and urban areas. They include views of architecture, both real and imagined (capricci). Italian art till the 17th century had been dominated by religious, historic, and mythologic subjects, but the Baroque era led to the rise of both genre and landscape painters.
