The 2012 Tel Aviv race riots, also referred to as the 2012 Israeli race riots and Israeli anti-black immigrant riots, were race riots that took place in Tel Aviv, Israel in May 2012. They began after the rape of an elderly woman, and an under age Israeli girl by Sudanese men in front of her boyfriend.[1][2][3][4]

Benjamin Netanyahu's response

Regarding African asylum seekers, calling the issue “very grave” and a threat to the “social fabric,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that: “If we do not stop the entry, the problem, there are now 60,000 illegal infiltrators; could easily grow to 600,000 illegal infiltrators. This would inundate the state and, to a considerable degree, cancel out its image as a Jewish and democratic state.[5]

Mainstream media coverage

Despite their widespread reporting of race riots in the Western world, such as the George Floyd riots in 2020, the mainstream media largely underreported these riots, in what has been seen by some as a form of race censorship, though it was reported in some politically correct media, such as The Guardian.[6] Notably, some Jewish groups in Israel have condemned the Israeli government's treatment of asylum seekers, which has also been largely underreported in the mainstream media.[7]
