The 1997–98 San Jose Sharks season was the Sharks' seventh season of operation in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Sharks qualified for the playoffs, losing in the first round to the Dallas Stars. The season, most notably, marked the debut of Patrick Marleau. Marleau, the second overall pick of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, currently holds most of the Sharks' major franchise records.
