Son of actor Jeetendra and younger brother to Ekta Kapoor, he is also the co-owner of Balaji Telefilms and Balaji Motion Pictures which are established by his father Jeetendra.
Early life
Tusshar Kapoor is the son of celebrated Bollywood actor Jeetendra and of Shobha Kapoor. His sister Ekta Kapoor is a prominent television and film producer.
He attended the prestigious Bombay Scottish School where he was in the same class as Abhishek Bachchan.[1] He then studied at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for his undergraduate degree and in the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan for his MBA.[2]
Career
Prior to making his debut as an actor, Kapoor worked with film director David Dhawan as an assistant. Following this, he trained as an actor with Roshan Taneja and Mahendra Verma, in their acting school, and in dance with Nimesh Bhatt.[3] He made his debut in 2001 with Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai, a remake of the Telugu super hit Tholi Prema, alongside Kareena Kapoor. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his work in the film. Despite this promising debut, Kapoor was not able to establish himself as a prominent lead actor, with movies like Jeena Sirf Merre Liye (2002), Yeh Dil (2003) and Gayab (2004) failing to make an impact at the box-office.[4]
Kapoor nevertheless appeared in supporting roles, or as part of ensemble casts, in commercial hits like Khakee (2004), Golmaal (2006), Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), Golmaal Returns (2008), Golmaal 3 (2010), The Dirty Picture (2011) and Shootout at Wadala (2013). He shared the screen with Riteish Deshmukh in the adult comedy film series Kyaa Kool Hain Hum, which third instalment was banned by the Central Board of Film Certification in 2015.[5] In 2011, he was cast in the critically acclaimed Shor in the City.[6][7][8]
In 2012, Kapoor took part in the "Fashion for a Cause" event which raised money for homeless children.[9] He has co-produced the film Chaar Din Ki Chandni, in which he has also starred.[10]
