The building served as the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Embassy,_Washington,_D.C." class="extiw" title="en:French Embassy, Washington, D.C.">Embassy of France</a> from 1936 until the current chancery was constructed at 4101 Reservoir Road, N.W., north of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgetown,_Washington,_D.C." class="extiw" title="en:Georgetown, Washington, D.C.">Georgetown</a>.
