Fair use rationale for Subvertising
It is believed that the use of this logo parody in the article Subvertising, which discusses the artist's work and puts it in context with other subverted logos, is a legitimate fair use of this low resolution image towards knowledge and understanding, and does not infringe the copyright of ExxonMobil. There are no known free alternatives available. The image is not just used illustratively for its subject, but also as an item in its own right, which is partly the subject of the article, in as much as the use of this logo in international press coverage is per se a significant fact and is mentioned as such in the article.
