Summary

Established in Pátzcuaro in 1540 and later moved to Morelia, the "San Nicolás de Hidalgo National and Primitive College" was the first higher education institution in México. The statue is dedicated to <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Miguel_Hidalgo" title="Miguel Hidalgo">Miguel Hidalgo</a>, who was dean of the college and Father of the Homeland.
